Yogyakarta, Arriving and Departing Information

Yogyakarta is once city in Indonesia that you should consider to visit, people kindness, smiling face from the locals, and the heritage site that become world famous place are become important things that you will see in this city. As this city is so easy to reach by air or land, I will tell you about how to go to Yogyakarta and how to go to other city from Yogyakarta.

Indonesia FREE Visa Information

by Air

Visiting Yogyakarta by flight will be the fastest and easiest way, the Adisucipto International Airport has been provide a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore by Air Asia and Silk Air, in fact you still can visit Yogyakarta by Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Batavia, Sriwijaya, Batik Air which will transit for several hours in Jakarta, Denpasar, Balikpapan, or Surabaya. Before 2015, every passenger should pay a tax before get into the waiting room but today our government declare that all air fare ticket should put the air tax in it so there is no more charge before the waiting room.

When you landed in Yogyakarta and want to go to the city reach the city center or check in to your hotels, using the Trans Jogja bus which is flat rate shuttle is highly recommended. With a flat rate of IDR3,500 this comfort air conditioned bus will take you to the nearest bus top to the city center or hotels no matter how many times you should change the bus. Today I have to say that there is a bus route which is still complicated to know but the easiest way to know what is your bus number is asking the officer who always standing by in the Trans Jogja bus stop. Only few of them who can speak English very well but I’m pretty sure they are all very kind person who will tell you your right bus to go to your destination. In Adisucipto Airport, Trans Jogja bus stop is located in a parking lot of terminal A which places in the east of the terminal building, just go to the exit gate and find the tunnel to go to the parking lot and you will see the Trans Jogja bus stop building on it. Another option to go to the city is using train which will stop in Tugu Yogyakarta Train Station or Lempuyangan Station and it costs around IDR10,000. Worse than the Trans Jogja which has 10 – 15 minutes interval, train will come every 30 – 45 minutes. You also can go to the city or hotels you stayed with Airport taxi which is not using their taxi meter but in package set, one way taxi from the Airport to the City Center Malioboro will take cost IDR60,000 but some of illegal taxi will also offering you a higher price. Don’t be surprise that some of taxi company (illegal) will charge your 2-3 times in peak season like Idul Fitri (moslem holiday) or Christmas – New Year Holiday and through my opinion (as long as you come alone) the best way to go to the city is by using Go-Jek, a number 1 motor taxi based on GPS, all you need to do is just install the Go-Jek apps in Android or App Store that order it, they will calculate the fee automatically before you push the order button, and the closest Go-Jek driver will take your order.

Train

Using a train is the other option to go to Yogyakarta, and today this city has 2 Stations: Tugu Yogyakarta Station or used to called Yogyakarta Station and the other one is Lempuyangan Station. Some of major cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Malang, and Purwokerto has a train which connected to Yogyakarta and stop in few cities for 5 minutes to drop off the passengers. It is also possible if you want to go to Yogyakarta but your flight is landed in Solo Airport known as Adisumarmo International Airport, from Solo you can go to any station such as Balapan, Purwosari or Solo Jebres and take the Prambanan Express (Prameks) train directly to Yogyakarta, non-AC train will costs around IDR10,000 and AC train will costs around IDR15,000 – 20,000.

Bus

Yogyakarta today has 2 main bus terminal, Giwangan (located in the south of Yogyakarta, about 5 km from the city center) and Jombor (located in the north of Yogyakarta, about 3km from the city center). Few trusted bus company such as Ramayana, Safari Dharma Raya, and Rosalia Indah will have a branch office in major cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Denpasar and you may purchase the ticket too on these 2 bus terminals to go out from Yogyakarta. When you want to take the bus experience to go to or go out from Yogyakarta I’m really recommend you to be careful about your safety cause some of “damn ass” diver used to drive very fast and crazy, during my 4 years experience of riding with bus, I prefer to take the Safari Dharma Raya or Rosalia Indah cause the driver srives more convenient than the others.
